As an animal communicator, I’ve had the privilege of helping people connect more deeply with their animals through energy, intuition, and presence. One pattern I see over and over again is that people show up feeling stressed, scattered, or overwhelmed. The energy of the world is intense right now, and many of us carry it without even realizing it. The problem? Our animals feel it too.

Animals are incredibly sensitive to our energetic state.
They don’t just listen to our words or observe our actions—they tune in to our vibration, our emotional currents, and even the subtle shifts in our body language.
When we are tense or distracted, they sense that dissonance.
When we are calm and grounded, they feel safe, supported, and more connected to us.
That’s why learning to regulate your own energy is one of the most powerful things you can do to improve your animal communication.
One of my favorite tools to help people shift their energy quickly and come into the present moment is something I call the Sensory Anchoring Technique.
This simple practice is like a grounding reset that brings you out of your head and into your body and environment—which is exactly where your animals live energetically. Here’s how it works:
The Sensory Anchoring Technique
5 Things You See: Pause and look around. Name five things you can see in your immediate environment. Really take them in. Notice color, texture, shape.
4 Things You Feel: Bring your awareness to touch. What do you physically feel right now? Maybe your feet on the ground, the breeze on your skin, your dog leaning against your leg.
3 Things You Hear: Tune into sound. Can you hear birds? Traffic? Your pet’s breathing? Let the sounds anchor you.
2 Things You Smell: Bring your awareness to your sense of smell. Maybe it’s fresh air, your dog’s fur, a nearby flower.
1 Thing You Love About Your Animal: End by placing your focus gently on one thing you absolutely love about your pet. Let that feeling of love wash over you.
This technique can be done in less than two minutes, and it can transform your energy.
It slows you down, calms your nervous system, and places you in an open, receptive state—one that animals intuitively respond to.
When you practice this regularly, you begin to notice more: subtle cues from your pets, intuitive nudges, emotional shifts in your energy field.
Your connection deepens not because you’re “trying harder,” but because you’re becoming more attuned.
So the next time you’re about to engage with your pet—whether for playtime, training, a walk, or simply sharing space—try this sensory anchoring exercise first. You might be amazed at how it shifts the dynamic.
The truth is, animal communication starts with presence. And presence begins in your body.
