Have you ever had that moment where you just know something’s off with your animal? Maybe they’re limping a little, not eating the way they usually do, or just seem… off. Your intuition is tugging at you, but it’s hard to tell what’s going on.
Before jumping to conclusions—or even while you’re waiting for that vet appointment—there’s a helpful, simple practice you can do to tune in, connect with your pet’s energy, and gather insight. It won’t replace professional care, but it can absolutely help you feel more attuned, grounded, and informed as their person.
This gentle body scan process is one I use all the time with my own animals and clients. It’s not about diagnosing—it’s about listening, energetically. And your animal will feel your presence and care.

Step One: Start With Yourself
Before tuning in to your pet, it’s important to ground and scan your own energy.
This helps you discern what’s yours and what might belong to your animal.
Close your eyes and bring your awareness to the bottoms of your feet.
Slowly move your attention upward—through your legs, hips, belly, back, arms, chest, neck, and head.
Notice any sensations, emotions, or areas of tension. You’re simply observing, without judgment.
This moment of presence also prepares your energy to gently connect with theirs.
Step Two: Tune In to Your Animal
Now bring your awareness to your pet. They don’t have to be physically with you—you can connect with them no matter where they are.
With calm intention, imagine scanning their body just like you did with your own.
Start at the tip of their tail or paws and slowly move upward, all the way to their nose or ears.
Visualize as if you’re inside their body, feeling what they might feel—always gently, respectfully, and with love.
You might notice a subtle shift—tightness, warmth, coolness, a color, a texture.
You may feel peace, or you may sense something is off.
Let the impressions come however they want to.
Step Three: Ask and Receive
Once you’ve scanned your animal’s energy, you can take it a step further: ask them, intuitively, “Is this what you’re feeling?” or “What do you want me to know?”
You don’t need to hear words.
Just stay open.
You might sense an emotion, see an image in your mind’s eye, or get a quiet inner knowing.
Or you might not receive anything this time—and that’s okay.
Like any intuitive skill, it gets stronger with practice.
Step Four: Take Notes
As you finish, jot down anything you received.
Writing helps you process and remember, and over time you might notice patterns or guidance that becomes clearer.
Step Five: Close with Gratitude
Thank your animal for allowing you to connect.
If you felt something significant, this may be the moment your inner guidance nudges you: “Try this food.” “Call the vet.” “Offer them rest.”
Trust your next step—and always lean on your veterinary team when needed.
This is about supporting your animal’s well-being on all levels: energetic, emotional, and physical.
You can use this practice any time your pet feels off—or just to deepen your connection. It’s peaceful, powerful, and truly sacred.
